Green Heron Spring is a creation of Carpinteria Architect Scott Ellinwood, FAIA. The preliminary design was used as a demonstration project in the USGBC LEED for Homes Pilot Program, and was evaluated as a Platinum level project. The project utilizes highly sustainable features such as rainwater harvesting, edible landscape, a community organic garden and orchard, photovoltaic (PV) roofing, EV charging stations in every garage. The extremely energy efficient homes are designed with enough solar hot water and solar PV panels to attain Zero Net Energy, and make more renewable energy than the buildings consume in a given year. Southern California Edison worked with Green Heron Spring on early energy modeling to inform design decisions and make Zero Net Energy possible.
