The Zero Net Energy ABC Green Home 2.0 demonstration home located in Walnut, California was designed as a collaborative effort between Southern California Edison, Habitat for Humanity, and Peninsula Publishing. Upon completion, the building will be given to a wounded veteran and is a testament to Habitat’s 38 year long record of building new homes for people who need them. The design by KGTY architects was meant to show that “Zero Net Energy” is possible, even on the typical large, mission-style residential design popular in Southern California. The building boast LED lighting throughout, high efficiency HVAC, EnergyStar appliances, and an highly insulated envelope with extremely low leakage. A 9kW photovoltaic solar array makes enough renewable energy to account for the electricity and natural gas used by the building throughout the year.
