Zero Net EnergyThe Sustainable Communities Program (SCP) is an innovative program offered by Southern California Edison (SCE) that supports the inclusion of sustainable and energy efficient features in new construction, major retrofits, and master planned community projects. The SCP targets commercial and residential project teams striving to achieve aggressive energy efficiency goals that aspire to reach zero net energy potential. Certification under a recognized green building rating system (e.g. LEED ®) is strongly encouraged.
Projects accepted into the Sustainable Communities Program receive no cost customized design and technical assistance, depending on project size and scope. SCP services may include:
Net Zero Energy Buildings Communities Services
• Design Charrettes• Solar Orientation and Bioclimatic Analysis• On-site Renewable Energy Feasibility Analysis• Daylighting Analysis• Energy Benchmarking and Modeling• ZNE Roadmapping• Life Cycle Cost Assessments• LEED® Specifications and Documentation Support
The SCP expands the traditional focus of utilities from building shell, HVAC, and lighting and controls, to include complete sustainable development – addressing design and construction practices that affect occupant health and environmental well-being, as well as lowered energy use. The SCP targets a wide variety of public sector and privately funded building project types that have not been addressed in past programs, especially mixed-use or multi-building projects, campus and land development, and projects seeking to integrate sustainable design practices. The SCP team will work with project teams to discover energy savings from water efficiency and solar orientation, as well as provide information about on-site generation technologies.
Certification by a recognized green building rating system such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®), Living Building Challenge®, or Greenpoint Rated® is strongly encouraged. Participants are directed to all the rebate and resource programs available such as California Advanced Homes Program (CAHP), Savings By Design (SBD), Standard Performance Contracts (SPC), California Solar Initiative (CSI), etc.
